Track lighting systems consist of several modular components and parts that work together to supply power and hold adjustable fixtures.
Core Track System Parts
- Track Rail (Stick): The main metal and plastic channel that mounts to the ceiling or wall and houses the internal copper electrical bus bars.
- Track Heads / Fixtures: The individual spotlights, floodlights, or pendant lights that snap or twist into the track to provide directional illumination.
- Adapters: The base connector attached to each fixture that locks into the track rail and transfers electrical current from the rail to the bulb.
Power and Connection Components
- Power Feed (Live End): Connects household ceiling wiring to the end or middle of the track to supply electricity.
- Connectors (Joiners): Link multiple track sections together in different configurations, including straight (I), corner (L), three-way (T), or cross (X) shapes.
- End Caps: Safety covers attached to the open, dead ends of a track run to block exposed metal components.
